Just watched Sherlock Holmes, and I have come up with more accurate movie titles:
Sherlock Holmes: The Break-Up
Sherlock Holmes: The Prequel to a Movie We Haven't Made Yet, But Certainly Will
Sherlock Holmes: The Unnecessarily Extended Version

Because, it was all those things, and more.

Not to say I hated it; Robert Downey Jr. is so fantastic as Ritchie's revamped Holmes that it's hard to say anything bad about him, but I certainly didn't love it as much as I'd hoped. The plot was simple enough, but encumbered by unnecessary additions and subplots, the pacing lagged soon after the halfway mark, and the entire movie felt like a rambling set up angling for a sequel.

My favorite scenes were really the Guy Ritchie signature scenes, where Holmes does some bare knuckle boxing, but even those are because Ritchie's great with physical, brutal sort of sequences not because it's particularly relevant to the movie or plot.

Anyways, I still like it, and I'll watch the sequel, but I was a little bit disappointed by it on the whole.

I could watch Jude Law and Robert Downey Jr. act like an old married couple all day though.

Also, I am jonesing for those sepia ink watercolor freezeframes from the end credits. Where can I find them? Gorgeous.

I had a nice Christmas with the family this year, had a nice haul of new clothes that I appreciate very much (new hip sweaters! thanks guys, for saving me the trouble!).

This year, I made cookies for everyone, and it was such a fun process I think cookie baking has become my new hobby.

I've read a ridiculous amount of books so far, and have probably gained about ten pounds in the space of two afternoons, but I am yet optimistic about the status of my waistline.

In February, I will interview with Princeton in Asia, and now that I've gotten to that stage, my nerves have begun tingling. To counter this, I am seriously considering running away for a couple weeks to Taiwan just prior and eating myself stupid.

In any case, I'm so far content and fat and jolly. Which, I guess, doesn't happen that often in anyone's lives so I am enjoying this status as much as possible.

Tomorrow, am marathoning the four Fast and the Furious movies with my dear Mints. It's gonna be so good.

Oh man, haven't posted in a long time... going to post more shit later.

I know this'll make me sound like a shut-in or something especially on CHRISTMAS but...

Reading comics really calms me down and make me feel fuzzy inside. *blush*

There's something about panels and the way they're organized that's full of sex sex sex...

Merry Christmas everyone!

Christmas church [25 Dec 2009|12:44pm]

So, today in church, one of the hymns was "Angels We Have Heard on High," which ends every verse with what the songwriter imagined the angels were singing when they alerted the shepherds of Jesus' birth in the Christmas story: "Gloria, in excelsis Deo."

And I thought, "why were the angels singing in Latin? Jewish shepherds wouldn't know Latin. They'd be singing in Hebrew if they wanted the shepherds to understand. Or maybe they were singing in some kind of totally unknown ANGEL LANGUAGE."

And I blew. My. Own. Fucking. Mind.

But that's what happens if you do fat bong rips before church.
